Not with so little information except to say that since the new hardware you
bought didn't help, troubleshoot the rest of the machine. Power supply,
overheating, bad processor, bad motherboard, bad hard drives, etc.

If you installed all three of the new items you purchased and then started
having the problem you need to eliminate the cause by:
1) Install the old video card and see if the problem stops, if not then
2) Remove the ram you installed and again see if the problem stops,
3) Is then new drive a slave drive or did you move Windows over to the new
drive.

This behaviour can be typical of overheating the CPU. I think you may have
purchased the wrong hardware :(

Check the fan on your CPU and ensure it is working properly. If not replace
it immediately. If you have the system overclocked you should set it back to
the proper speed. Some BIOS can monitor sensors for Temperature. Often these
will trigger a shutdown when the temp gets too high. It could be that the
temp settings have been messed with and are set too low or they are doing
their job correctly. Often there is a setting to signal an alarm prior to
shutting down. If there is such a setting try enabling it. That will tell
you if this is the problem. DO NOT adjust the shutdown temp setting too high
as you could fry the mobo or even start a fire if the CPU overheats.

There are some hardware monitoring apps that will show you the CPU temp.
Some can be run from a floppy independent from Windows and some can be run
from your Desktop. Do a google search for CPU heat monitor to learn more.

The shutdown problem: Windows XP has a default setting to "Restart on failure"

Right click on "My Computer" and select Manage. Expand the Event Viewer category and look
through each of the three sub-categories for the red flagged error records. The date and time
of these should correspond to your restarts. Double click on an error record to see the details
of the error.

Change this restart behavior:
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Advanced

In the Startup and Recovery section, click on the "Settings" button to open the Startup and
Recovery window. In the System Failure section, uncheck "Automatically restart",
Click "Apply", "OK"

After that change the computer will no longer restart when a system failure occurs. Instead it
will probably throw up a "Blue Screen Of Death" with a STOP error message and then halt
completely, requiring a manual power off and restart (or reset if it has a hardware reset
switch).

But the contents of the STOP error message will give a specific clue as to the underlying cause
of the problem.

Don't be suprised, if after changing the setting, things appear to run just fine.
Some errors are so minor that they will only show up in the Event logs and not produce a BSD.
However, they would still evoke the restart if the setting were changed back to the default.

-------------------------------------------

The freezing problem: The most common cause seems to be overheating and memory problems.
Check to see that all the internal fans are working correctly and not clogged or obstructed.
Reseat the memory, or try 1 stick at a time. (The memory could also be mismatched/wrong speed)
Leave the case cover off to see if it runs cooler and stops freezing.

Try lowering the "Hardware Accelerator" setting a notch or three.
Right-click the desktop, select Properties. Click the "Settings" tab.
Click the "Advanced" button, click the "Troubleshoot" tab.

Too hot. Start with new thermal paste 'twixt the CPU and the heat sink.

Your description sounds like an overheating cpu. You might want to remove
the heatsink, clean off the thermal compound and apply new thermal grease
and reseat the heatsink. If you've never done this before, google for the
proper way to do this and get some decent thermal grease.

While this does sound like an overheating problem, also consider that
you have added a lot of extra hardware that requires a lot more power
when stressed... You may also need to upgrade your power supply to a
higher-wattage version to feed these power-hungry addons. If the power
supply output dips too low, it can shut down the system without
warning.
