While playing online games my computer freezes up. Anything else I do the
computer is fine, but when I play games i.e., Big Money, Inspector Parker,
Jewel Quest, etc. it'll freeze up. Does anyone know what causes this and how
to fix it?

Hi dentyne628,

Online games are usually developed using Flash, Java, or Virtual Machine.
The most likely solution to a problem with an online game is to install, upgrade,
or reinstall the right one for the game site you're playing on.

A. For Zone.com games: Zone.com are converting most of their games for Flash
to avoid the conflicts between the Sun Java system and Microsoft's Virtual Machine.
Install Flash from: http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/frameset.fhtml

B. Most other game sites still use Java. You can install Java and find more help
tips at this webpage: http://java.com/en/download/help/pogo.jsp

C. If the online game still won't load, or gives you errors, try these steps:

1. Click START / Control Panel / Internet Options and click on the Advanced Tab.

2. Below HTTP 1.1 is the Sun Java/ Microsoft VM section: Make sure all Java choices
are unchecked (especially JIT) and then press [OK]. You may be prompted to reboot.

3. If you don't see a Microsoft VM section then download Microsoft Virtual Machine for:
Windows 98 / Me / NT / XP from: http://www.abxair.com/software/msjavx86.exe

4. After you download Java, double-click the file to install it, reboot and then follow
the directions in Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other advanced options.

* Whenever you get a Java Virtual Machine Security Update from Windows Update, you
will have to follow Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other adv. options again.

6. If the problem persists Adjust Your browser settings using this basic example:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/nibblesnbits/EnterRooms.html#IE

7. Try these suggestions for Zone's Java Games:
http://classic.zone.msn.com/zzzz/help/helpjavagames.asp

8. Maybe it's a software conflict: Make certain that your Firewall or Antivirus program is
not configured to block Java Applets. Norton's products for example have that option.
Regardless, temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting with Firewall,
Antivirus, AdBlockers, & Internet Accelerators using the method in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=331796
or this utility: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

9. If you have a Coffee Cup icon in your system tray (next to the time) you might have a
conflict between MS VM and Java: Uninstall Java using Control Panel / Remove Programs.

10. Run a MS AntiSpyware Scan: www.microsoft.com/spyware

11. Check the Help / Support section of the game site in question for Java topics relevant to
that site. There is usually an email or a (non Java) help chat available as well. :-)

I have the same problem though i play more graphically intensive games namely
World of Warcraft it all started with my main board screwing up computer
wouldnt post i heard a weird chirp rather than a post beep so i replaced the
mainboard with another of the same model the elitegroups A780GM-a black
series after replaceing that the computer posted but every time id try to run
a game after a couple of mins the screen would black out and would be
reluctant to turn on working with this i checked my component temps my GPU
was cookin at up to 127 C before it would black out opened the case found the
GPU fan was burned on my Nvida geforce 7200 i belive it was but i replaced
that with a Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS but now whenever i run a game after a few
mins comp freezes up comepletely Ctrl Alt Del has no affect and im forced to
hard shutdown every time i got speed fan reading nothing over 57c so i
figured new VGA gotta be driver corruptions so i reformated my hardrive
reloaded windows installed drivers and its still doing it i also re seated my
ram sticks somewhere along the line to check if it might be them ( i dont
have a floppy disc drive on comp so i cant run memtest) ive got 4 1 gig ram
sticks still happening please if anyone has any ideas as to what i could try
next that would be great cuz ive streesed just about every option i can think
of

Try reading that out loud all in one breath.

PUNCTUATION! (Yes, I know that's shouting.)

Try a new case with better air flow and that will help with the heat
buildup.

Using a cooler master case air flow is not an issue as i mentioned i
replaced the VGA and the temps are fine now it was just cuz the fan got
fried somehow but its still freezing whenever i attempt to play a game im
figureing ive gotta bad Power supply or hard drive unfortunately i cant
afford a new OS and HDD cuz microsoft has the most stupidly redundant
copyright protection on earth so im gonna try my bros power supply and if
that doesnt work well im gonna have to get a new OS /HDD

honestly was there anything that wasn't pointless and immature about that l last post? If I'm not mistaken I'm assuming you read that, had no idea how to help. Then you were struck by an epiphany realizing you have no life, and you've become such a loser you have nothing better to do than to criticize the grammar of someone looking for help. Please if you don't have anything useful to say don't say anything.

Well, you *are* in fact mistaken.

It was designed to help you, through the medium of lightheartedness.
Better-crafted posts will probably help you get more readers. I certainly
switched off reading the content not far into your one-sentence stream of
consciousness. Maybe I lack stamina, but over two hundred and fifty words
and not a *single* full-stop, comma or semi-colon in sight was too much. If
you couldn't be bothered to write a decent question, why should I bother
answering?

Help yourself by at least reading through what you've just written before
you hit "Send", see what you're about to inflict on others. You seem to have
the intelligence and ability (your second post was hugely better in that
respect), you just seem to lack the courtesy and/or will.

In terms of more direct help? If no joy with other PSU: "event logs",
"latest video drivers", "does your PC meet the games' minimum specs?", "hard
drive diagnostics", "memtest bootable *CD*" and "try the hardware group".
