My computer has a bad habit of freezing unexpectedly and often. I've run the defragmenter, virus scans, everything I can think of, I even did a complete system restore. No joy. It still freezes several times a day - sometimes with disastrous results!

Firewall, antiviris, networks all have conflicts. check your computer offline turn Viris scan off and firewalls. Run a progam that can be used without a connection. see if you have the same problems.
also check your most current viris theats.updates with microsoft making sure they work.

I had a similar problem. My computer was running so slow for weeks and I couldn't find any solution that worked. I tried to use the system restore and nothing worked. Here's what finally worked for me: Restart your computer and immediately begin pressing the F8 key a bunch of times during the reboot until you come to the "Safe Mode" menu. One of the options on the safe mode menu references "Restoring To The Last Known Good Configuration" which is somewhere in the middle of the screen and you can just arrow down to it. Now after doing this I had to go back and reinstall some Windows updates that were un-done during the restore. My computer works great now. I haven't had any issues with a slow response. Hope this helps
