It could. I've often used the fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea" when
talking about re-installing software without uninstalling first to
eliminate
a problem. It could just bury the problem deeper. Plus you could end up
with
multiple copies of a file in different directories, etc. The mind just
boggles at what could happen!

freezes when
anyone attempts to save a Word document (Word 2000). They've tried
reinstalling
