Computer freezes when hard drive turns off for power-saving feature

I have the power-saving feature turned on that will
automatically shut off your hard drives when they're not
being used. A nice feature, especially since one of my
drives has a very high-pitched whine that you really only
notice when it's off.

However, oftentimes, I'll come back to my computer after
it has turned off the drive (and possibly my second one
as well, which I run Windows on), and it's frozen. The
hard drive indicator light is bright and unblinking.

Does anyone know how I would solve a problem like this,
besides "turn power-saving off"?

Thanks

I sympathize with you because I had this happen with different drives in
different machines on a occasion. My guess is that the answer is not simple
and may be related to the BIOS.

Argh. I was afraid of that.

Does anyone know of a program that will automatically
turn off just one of my hard drives? I don't know if that
would solve my problem, but if it's my other (quiet) hard
drive that's causing the problem, then it might.

Thanks.
