computer freezes when copying music from cd to itunes or wmp

my computer just freezes up after copying 3 to 5 songs from any cd into
itunes or wmp. It is a new computer so has lots of memory but only 256 ram.
please help it's driving me crazy!
 
Memory is ram. You mean you have plenty of harddrive storage and 256 megs
of ram.

Does your pc exhibit any other problems.
