Hi everyone!
I am running W2K professional on a desktop and the computer freezes up on me
frequently, but not every time soon after I booted up. I suspected some IRQ
problems but do not know how to check this. Also, as the computer starts up,
the initial screen stays there only a second and I cannot read it fast
enough. Is there a key I can push to stop the screen temporarily? I think
there is but I forgot what it is.

You can press the Pause key on your keyboard to freeze the display.

Thank you Pegasus. Now that I can read the screen, I find that interrupt 11
is servicing 4 different devices: network controller(which is also serviced
by interrupt 10), SimpleCom. Controller, Serial Bus Controller and Display
Controller. Could this cause the computer to freeze up soon after boot?

Interrupt problems are very rare these days. It is more likely
that one of your adapters or one of your drivers is causing
this problem. Remove all non-essential adapters and reboot
the machine in Safe Mode to see if the problem persistes.

Could you explain "adaptor"? I can only think of a display adaptor. I have a
Sony flat screen and have had it for at least 2 years before the problem
started. The mouse cursor freezes up and ALT- CTRL- DEL does not work soon
after the boot completes.

Some PCs have printed circuit boards for sound and for
network connections. They are called "adapters" and
they can be removed. Others have the same facilities
integrated with the motherboard. They cannot be removed.

The Sony monitor will not cause your PC to freeze.

As I said before, try rebooting in Safe Mode and see
if the problem persists.
