I modified my computer's bios to disable the "PM control by APM" in
the power management module. After that, the computer doesn't boot at
all. The power
light is on, hard disk light is on, fans turn, but no display, and no
beeps.

I had same problem occasionally before (I didn't change anything
neither in OS or Bios at that time). Normally it will boot after
several tries.

I replaced Monitor, keyboard, mouse, video card, and RAM, Discharged
BIOS, pull
the power cables from Drives, and fans. No luck at all.

Here is some info about my computer:
MB: VP6
CPU: Dual P-III/600 overclocked to 1G.
OS: Windows 2000 Server with latest SP.
HD: 30G (RAID)

It has been working well for 2 years.

I'm thinking to Flash the BIOS. But it doesn't boot now, so I can not
flash it, right?

If I move my Hard disk (boot disk, NTFS) to a different machine, will
I be able to read data out from it? More agressively, can I still run
the Win2k?

Thanks!!!!

Hi Henry

I don't have experience of this mobo, but I would try resetting the bios
(jumper ccmos1 on the mobo), manual here
http://www.abit-usa.com/downloads/manual/vp6.zip in case you don't have it.

You probably won't have much success booting your disk in another machine
unless it has the same hardware. You should be able to access the data by
adding your drive to another 2k or XP machine as slave, logging on as admin
and taking ownership of the files you need.

These are usually a shop job unless you have a number of spare parts
available to make substitutions.
First make sure that the graphics card is seated properly, especially as you
have changed it.
Make sure also, ram is correctly inserted.
If still no boot try with a boot floppy in the A: drive.
If this fails, you need to try a new psu, followed by motherboard in that
order.

Yeah, I replaced everything I could except motherboard and CPUs. But it seems
more like a BIOS issue, cause it happened right after I changed the setting
in the BIOS. It's unlikely that a hardware failed at same time.

Well, you could try popping that little old cpu out of the socket, but
keep all fans plugged in. If the fans spin into life when you turn it
on then its the cpu. Also, you sure you haven't dislodged the connector
that goes from the power supply button to the motherboard?
