I have a Emachine T1440, purchased about 15 months ago
with an XP operating system with 128MB of SDRAM
installed. I needed more memory so bought a 256MB chip,
with the same 133 mHz bus speed. I have added the 256MB
chip to the second slot. The computer does not recognize
the added memory. I then switched the chips and the
computer still does not recognize the new chip. I took
the 128MB chip out and the computer would not boot up.

Have I purchased a bad chip or have I not set something
up to recognize the new memory?

Thanks, feel free to email me as well.

Either the new RAM is bad, or more than likely it is the incorrect type.
There are more things to consider than just the speed. Go to
www.crucial.com, they have tools to find the correct RAM for your machine.
