We have had this 2 weeks and tried evrything. We have windows xp
professional. This camera did not come with software but we have nero. We
went and bought a firewire cable to connect to the computer and a duallink
hub usb2 since we do not have a firewire connection on the computer. It will
recognize our digital still camera but not the video. Whenever we connect it
the computer appears to be tring but when we try to capture the video we get
the message no capture device detected. If anyone has any suggestions I would
appreciate it.

Maybe Windows Movie Maker would be
worth a try...you already have it installed.
If you cannot fine it, go to...Start / Run...
and type...moviemk.exe...press...Enter.

If you are running WinXP SP2 you have
version 2.1 and if you have version 1.1, you
can upgrade to version 2.0 by downloadiing
from the following link:

MovieMaker 2.0

Some info to get you started:

Might be a good idea to install a Firewire
Card, the quality of your transferred video
will be better.

Thank you John. I went to those links but found no solution. I am just
wondering if we should add the firewirecard and not use the hub.

A couple of other thoughts: I don't fully understand how you have connected
the camera, but the consensus is that video cannot be transferred via USB. If
you are going through USB, that is likely the problem. Get the firewire card.

Otherwise, look at Microsoft's Article ID 885222. It addresses a firewire
problem introduced by Service Pack 2. They have a patch that can be
downloaded and installed.

Finally, I read on a DV forum (don't remember which one) that quite a few
people had working connections that went bad with Service Pack 2. Their
solution was to roll back the firewire drivers to the Service Pack 1 version.
This seems to fix the problem for most people. The method of rolling back to
the old drivers was not simple because XP kept updating the driver to the SP
2 version. Wish I could give you the exact forum with detailed instructions,
but don't remember. Googling DV and Service Pack 2 would probably get you
there.
