in searching microsoft xp sites, the word or
words "computer crash" do not seem to exist in the
microsoft vocabulary. maybe computers don't crash in
Redmond, but they certainly do everywhere else, and
there's precious little help from ms on how to diagnose
and solve problems

.
The main causes for PC crashes are; not enough RAM, or
one bad memory module, over heating, (check cooling fans),
and device drivers which need to be updated mostly for the
video and sound cards, and viruses and worms, so update
your anti-virus program and run a full scan. Also try the
system file checker tool, click start, run, and type in; "
sfc /scannow " with that space after the sfc, and it may
ask for your XP CD to copy any needed files from, and it
runs as "windows file protection". Borrow a XP CD if you
do not have have, if it asks for one to insert. And run
regular maintenance, disk cleanup and defragmenter tools.

a 'crash' is a generic term for what could be any one of a thousand errors
with your hardware or software. your computer (windows xp) has built in
diagnostics such as 'event viewer' to help you determine the cause of the
'crash'. start with the help and support centre. record error messages
accurately and then research the error codes.
