I installed microsoft's antispyware on a computer running
windows 2000 professional. Intel p2 233 chip. the next
day my computer wouldn't boot up even with an install
disk. Anybody else have this problem or is it just a
coincidence?

Possibly a coincidence, how memory is installed on that PC? It could
possibly be a system requirements issue:
Minimum system requirements for Windows AntiSpyware (Beta):

. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher

. A 300 MHz or faster processor with at least 64 MB of RAM

. Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows ServerT 2003

. At least 10 MB of available free space on your hard disk

. Internet access with at least a 28.8 Kbps connection to use SpyNetT

Have you been able to boot the computer in safe mode? If you can maybe you
will be able to remove it then.

What happens? What exactly did you do in addition to installing Microsoft
Antispyware? If you did a cleaning run, did you restart before going home
for the day?

If you can't boot from a bootable disk of some sort, you have a hardware
problem which would be very unlikely to be related to the beta.

I have a p2 with a 233mhz mmx processor. Tried to boot
in safe mode but went to the "boot from last known good
configuration". It went to the windows start up screen
and just hung there until i shut it down, then when i
restarted it just stayed a black screen. I can hear the
hard drive start for a couple of seconds, but then
nothing. I can't imagine that the syware program crashed
it, but you never know. Before i ran the spyware program
i took 5 viruses off the computer. Maybe I deleted a
critical file by accident. Crappy norton didn't pick up
the viruses and i had to run pc cillin online virus scan
(just fyi). Anyway thanks for your advice.

I installed and ran the antispyware on a WINXP p4 machine
and it's taken me 12 hours and 2 hours with Microsoft
support on the phone to get my desk top back. I couldn't
boot even in safe mode. We had to restore SYSTEM32 files
from my XP install CD, so I now have no idea what system
I'm running. I had SP2, now I don't, but it won't
install, either. All my McAfee software is 'gone', but it
won't reintall because it's 'already installed'. I wish I
had just lived with the Spyware!!!!!

A consequence of betas my friend, sorry, always create a restore point
before you install betas or backup your data and ensure you have source disk
to reinstall any damaged software.
