Am running XP (home ed) on a novatech laptop and the
clock loses time when the machine is switched off. No
problem when running. Can sinc. ok with Internet time.

Please help.

Not sure but sounds like you have a bad cmos battery. go
to some place and have them check it out unless you know
how to change that yourself.

A bad CMOS battery would generate more problems that just the clock
losing time. The OP would be getting configuration errors, dumping
him into BIOS, every time the system was booted up.
