How can I tell if my compute is capable of handling a firewire? I have a HP
Pavilion 750n. Is there a format to check my computer's capability and
cards?

Hello,

First your machine must meet the minimum spec for Movie Maker. Second you must
have a spare PCI slot on the motherboard....PCI slots are most often white they
will be lined up in a row, possibly 5 inches long and have lots of terminal
connections inside each one. I don't know what your machine actually has, but,
basically to do any good you need a Pentium 4 or equivalent processor, to have
reasonable performance you need at least 2GHz for the CPU speed and around
512MB of RAM...and a lot of hard drive space.

If the above is satisfied then you are able to plug in a Firewire card.

I would go to this site and download the free Everest Home Edition and it
will tell you a lot of information about your computer.

Thanks guys. You have my computer specs down to a T. I do have the port.
My computer is Pentium 4, 1.6 Ghz, 512 Mb, 80 Gb, 32 Mb. I am currently using
Movie Maker (version 1) with the USB port. Picture quality is poor. I read
that I should get the firewire. Do you think my computer is up to it with
the specs I have. I am not really doing anything extensive, just a few
family movies. I don't really want to add on to my computer. It is a few
years old.
