I need a freeware or shareware that will allow me to use my computer
camera to record a video of five minutes or less. I would prefer a
format other than quicktime or avi.
This is to record a scientific experiment.
Thanks.

"Advanced LG"

"personal-use webcam watching and reviewing FREEWARE. LG is a like a
Webcam VCR: it monitors, records, and plays them back for you. Like a
VCR, it can monitor and record while you are present, or while you are
away. You have the right to timeshift any broadcast and replay it at a
later time for personal-use, and this software supports your right to do
so."

System requirements

-Windows 98 FE*, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME*, Windows NT 4.0, Windows
2000, Windows XP*
-Minimum 3 Megabytes of disk space for software and control files
Recommend 10 Gigabytes or more disk space for gathered recordings
-Minimum 32 or more megabytes of RAM to watch a few cams simultaneously
-Recommend 128 or more megabytes of RAM to watch many cams simultaneously
-Minimum a Pentium II 233 Mhz or better CPU with MMX
-Recommend a Pentium III/IV or Athelon near 1 Ghz or better CPU to watch
many cams simultaneously
-Recommend a computer configuration with both a C-drive and a D-drive

I do not know what format it records in?

crispy

We've had this conversation here before and no one has ever mentioned
Pryme. Or, at least, I've never heard it mentioned. Wow. Finally, a
decent freeware webcam - with video capture. Even has motion
detection. You could monitor your science project from a distance and
upload images to the network only when there is activity. So cool.
