Hi all,
I was working yesterday in the computer and suddely i felt some burning smell so i suddenly switched off the computer and when i restarted it didn't start. i opened and saw the CPU there i didn't see anything and consulted and i was told to change the electricity block, i changed and the problem persists, then i was told to change the motherboard and i changed and then the sytem started randomly and the keyboard is being checked and the mouse is checked and then thats all, no signal in the monitor, i thought vido card problem but it is not that, where else the problem can be, because inside the CPU all the fans are working but no activity sound inthe mother board as before, i used to hear some sound when the motherboard works and the monitor ons. now just the fans are rotating and nothing more. where can be the problem. Please help me !!

Could you give us the specification of your pc before it made the burnt smell and after. Were there any bangs?

Where to start !!

the sytem started randomly and the keyboard is being checked and the mouse is checked and then thats all, no signal in the monitor
Unfortunately it's trial and error.
Assuming the new mobo is fitted correctly, disconnect any hard drives/optical drives and take out any cards like modems etc and just leave the graphics card, memory and cpu in. Also disconnect the mouse. You might also want to try another keyboard to be sure.
If it now starts and boots correctly every time to the point where it's looking for the hard drive, then try connecting a hard drive.
If it's still booting randomly then attach a floppy drive and get hold of Memtest on a floppy and test the memory.
If the memory is OK see if you can persuade someone to lend you a cpu.

Best of luck.

well for me
i smell the faint acidic smell of my PSU burning before i saw the wisp of smoke.... that was a clear sign for me

Damn! You mean I didn't have to wait for the flames to appear on my machine and then panic :)

im sure it is ur PSU, in that case i would unplug everything... unless of course u want to damage all of your components- Buy a new PSU :)
