Help!! I'm going a little nuts.

HP computer
Windows XP Home
Epson printer

Some time back, I think I went a little overboard deleting
files I thought were related to spyware after running
a spyware-detect program (or hijack, don't remember which).
My computer became inop, so I had to run the HP System Recovery.
Most everything was put back the same, but a few things are
not quite right yet. The main reason I'm posting is because
there's apparently a problem with my printer software (among other
things). I had been out of ink for a while and had not even
tried to use the printer since before I ran the System Recovery.
I just got some new ink cartridges, and discovered that the
printer won't print jobs.

I've tried to re-install, but no luck. I feel that if I could
get the computer to give me that "new hardware detected"
popup that I used to get with no problem, I could re-install
with no problem, but I can't get it to recognize the printer
as new hardware after deleting the printer driver, and all
traces of the printer settings. I've, I believe, gotten rid
of all traces of the printer software and settings several times,
and tried to re-install, but no cigar. I had no problems
whatever installing this printer on this machine when I bought
it. This computer has been acting a little screwy in other
areas as well since I deleted so much and ran the Recovery:

I usually am unable to get to my Hotmail box with I.E., sometimes
--rarely--I.E. will take me right to the mailbox; most of the
time, not. However, Netscape works with Hotmail.

I noticed last night that Defrag is not working either. It
*appears* at first to be working, but it just seems to bog
down and pretty much do nothing, kinda like when I'm trying
to get to Hotmail with I.E. Most of my other applications
work okay, AFAIK. So, any clues guys? Good responses
MUCH appreciated. Thanks.

Computer Q&A (Quirks and Anomalies), This is always a hard
topic to address. Whenever you overdo something on XP and it
leaves the system shaky - it's really hard to get it back to a known
good state. When this happened, did you attempt a System Restore ?

You might benefit from a SFC /Scannow - to verify all your XP
components are correct versions. Did you use Add/Remove to
take out the Epson drivers & Support software ? Also, a printer
will seem to not work when it's Spooling has a failed job queued
up in it. Did you check the Queue before you removed the software ?
Also check Device Manager (Click View, Show Hidden) expand
the Printers category and remove any "Phantom" printer instances.

The issue with Hotmail sounds more like something to do with your
network configuration. What Security software do you use on the
PC (AV/Firewall & Malware Removal/Real-Time blocking) >?

Yep, after the PC became inoperative (after using the spyware
or hijack removal program, and apparently deleting too much).
The Restore worked pretty much, except for the problems mentioned
Also, since restore, when I click Control Panel or try to go into
the hardware section, I get these popups with the big red X, that
say CWBMSGBX.DLL at the top, and CWBNL0202-CWBMSGB.DLL inside
the popup, above the OK. I read that these may be related to
AS400 stuff (which I since got rid of, but this is still happening).

I feel sure I've done that too, but I'll check again, if I can
that is (problem mentioned above with Control Panel).

start > run > sfc /scannow

this will run system file checker that will reinstall any corrupted or
missing OS files

Thanks Jeff, but doing this made no difference at all...same
problems.

CWBNL0202 CWBMSGBX.dll

I recently had the CWBNL0202 - CWBMSGBX.dll prompt when opening the Control Panel after having to do a a recovery of the original registry files using the Recovery Console on a Windows 2000 PC. Anyway after following several procedures I found that this prompt was due to having IBM Client Access installed.
As the Add/Remove Programs applet showed no content I had to over install IBM Client Access. I then did an un-install and re-install and applied the IBM Client Access Servicepack - no longer get this prompt

I am still trying to resolve the fact that none of the installed programs before the recover appear in Add/Remove programs. I initially couldn't even get to the Add/Remove Programs applet and got the CWBNL0202 - CWBMSGBX.dll prompt. I followed the instructions from

http://www.windowsitpro.com/Article/ArticleID/38595/38595.html

which allowed me to get into the Add/Remove applet but the CWBNL0202 - CWBMSGBX.dll prompt still appeared on opening the Control Panel. I have followed most of the Microsoft article

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;266668

I have yet to investigate

http://www.windowsitpro.com/Article/ArticleID/14623/14623.html

Anyway this appears to be a separate issue! Re-install IBM Client Access.
