Please help!

Ever since last night, I don't know what i've done, but my computer starts
up and then starts to beep. When I log on, the beep is replaced with the
Windows XP Exclamation sound. This sound is repeated every few seconds and
it got really annoying so i disabled the sound in the Sounds CP applet.
Everyting else seems normal.

What do you think is causing the sound and how can I stop it?

Any suggestions welcome

Don't know if this is your problem, but if, when starting up, Windows detects a change in memory, it beeps a few times while booting up. By change in memory I mean that a ram board has gone bad or been removed.

Thanks but i havent changed any of this.. any other ideas?

Some motherboards have a audible warning code . This is used for
troubleshooting when there is a board component failure. Jym

Hi Neil,
Did you download any new programs? Actually it 'sounds' to me like
some kind of 'alerter' program.Check your Taskbar or Systray for an
new entries or icons. If you don't find anything new there, check
Taskmanager(Either through 'Start>Programs or r-click Taskbar an
select Taskmgr. or hit Ctrl+Alt+Del). On the tabs check Programs,i
nothing there, check 'Processes'.Scan the list for items that might
give you an "alert'.
Also check this:http://tinyurl.com/78u
Hope you find it.
Cheers, P
