When composing for a local newsletter I find I have one small word left over at the end of a paragraph at times. In that case I thought if I could only find a way to 'shave' a little bit off each space between words in that paragraph I'd have enough space created to avoid carrying over that little word to a new line. Is there any way to do this
Thank

You bet! See http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/FitCopy.htm,
especially the part of condensed character spacing. Condensing by 0.1 point
will make a dramatic but undetectable difference.
