I'm running out of free space on my computer, and I have a lot of music,
video and pictures- but i don't want to delete them. Will they take up less
space if I compress them? Songs are all .mp3, video is all .avi, and pictures
are either .jpg or .gif. I dont know if that matters at all but I want to
make sure I will still be able to play them and burn them to CDs/DVDs, etc.
if I compress them... any help or advice would be much appreciated thank
you!!!

Personally, I don't think compression is
the answer. JPEGs which are probably
the bulk of your collection are already
highly compressed.

Your best bet would be to copy them to
another hard drive (even an external one...
they are relatively inexpensive now). Once
you are positive that the files were
successfully transferred...you could delete
them from your current drive.

And you might also consider archiving the
files on CDs or DVDs.

The Digital Image Library that is included
with MS Digital Image Suite 2006 will
archive images to CDs or DVDs. There's
a 60 trial version if you would like to give
it a try:

Starter Edition 2006

Good luck.
