I've tried several times to compress and send a ppt both
off a hard drive folder and a cd. It is taking a lenghty
amount of time to send and the recipients are not
receiving it. What am I doing wrong or does anyone know
the exact steps to follow? Or where I can find this
information?

What's the size of the file? The larger the file, the longer it takes to
send, there's no getting around that.

Many people have email boxes that are limited, sometimes to only a few
megabytes. If your file is larger than their limit, your email will be
rejected.

See this for suggestions on putting your PPT file on a diet:

Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I do about it?

Another approach, if it's availble to you, is to put the PPT file up on a
web server then send an email with just a link to the file.

Ali,

How big is the file before you try to email it?

It may be toooooo big to email....that's probably why it's taking a long
time to send and your friends are not receiving it. I wouldn't want to send
something in a email that was any bigger than 2mb and be sure that it would
reach the recipient (Ok 2mb is a rough guide).

Things to try:
- Send one attachment per email

- Try splitting the presentation down into slides.
e.g. slides 1-10, 2-20, 21-30 etc

- Try optimizing the presentation with software...see
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00062.htm

- Uploading your file to some webspace....then emailing the web address
e.g. http://www.myfreewebspace.com/ali/ThatBigFileIWasTryingToEmail.ppt

- Stop your presentations getting too big in the first place....see
