Somehow I have inadvertantly changed a setting or something in Power Point so
that text I have entered in text boxes and titles is compressed and some
charaters appear to be overlaying others. I don't know what I did and I
can't undo whatever it was.

I'm wondering if you have the "local printer driver" problem. Do you
have a local printer installed as your default. Check out:

Hello,
If you are using PPT 2007 or later.

On the Home tab, locate the Font group and click on the little arrow at the
bottom right of it. (Hint: when you however over it, it will show a tooltip
for the Font dialog box). On that dialog, check the Character spacing tab,
is the spacing Compressed? You can change it to Normal .

If this issue is presentation then chances are this setting was set in the
Slide master slides.
