Hi,
I formatted the drive so that I can reinstall Windows98, but I
could go no further than this message:
"Setup found a compressed volume or a disk-cache utility on
your computer. Quit setup and check your compressed volume with your
disk compression software or remove the disk-cache utility. Then run
setup"
I don't recall compressing the drive myself. It must have
been done when I took delivery of the computer. I do not have the
compression software and wonder how could I undo the compression or
remove the disk-cache utility. I have to format the drive because it
has been affected by virus.
Please help.

Regards, Philip

The usual way you get that message is when it isnt compressed
at all and you're just using a manually configured boot floppy and
you have stuffed that manual creation of the boot floppy up.

Its generally best to boot the distribution CD anyway.

If you cant do that for some reason, just make another startup floppy.
Thats in Add/Remove Programs/Startup Floppy.

If you were running on a compressed drive, you
can just format the drive and get rid of that now.
