Should I compress folders using:

1. XP Home's right-click/advanced/compress routine
2. send to/compressedfolder(zip)
3. regular old winzip 8.0?

If you ZIP it up, then the files would be stored in a ZIP archive. If you
compress it using right click>properties>advanced>compress, the files will
just be compressed (only available under NTFS). It would not be stored in a
ZIP archive.

Just as an aside, how do you *uncompress* a large number of folder/files
under NTFS?

Uncle Buck asked ... "how do you *uncompress* a large number of folder/files

Same way you compressed them ... select the compressed folder/files, select
Properties, General tab, Advanced and UNcheck the item reading 'Compress
contents to save disk space".
