It is not new. Outlook has always shown all electronic addresses. Users who
have only used IMO mode of Outlook 98/2000 are not accustomed to this
because IMO mode actually used the Windows Address Book.
The behavior cannot be changed. The only way to prevent the display of fax
numbers is to store them in a different field or to disguise them (e.g.,
precede them with an alpha character) so that Outlook won't recognize them
as phone numbers.
There are also a number of utilities available that can do this for you
automatically. Some are listed here:

Thank you Russ, right you are. Is this new in 2002 and is
there any way to force Outlook to list only email entries?

Are you sure they are actually duplicates? Use the horizontal scroll bar to
examine each entry closely.
Remember that the Outlook Address Book lists every electronic address for
each Contact separately. That will include all email, fax, mobile phone and
pager fields.

When composing email if I use the TO: link to select names
for addresses there are many duplicates. If I look at My
Contacts there aren't any duplicates. Where is the file
that the TO: link looks at and what method should I
use
to
correct the duplications?
