Ok A hard drive I have got damaged. Its only a small one nothing very important on it but nevertheless would like to get it sorted. Problem, one of the componants has gone kaput on the controller board

I've looked on the ST microelectronis website but just cannot find it. Problem is I thought it was probably a diode - Nothing comes up in search engine for the description

ST AED337 or ST 4ED337. The first character is not very clear

I wonder if any of you can help?

Heres a picture. It's as clear as I could get it with my micro's on and no tripod.

TIA

one of the "tricks of the trade" when HDs were small GBs and quite expensive was to buy up "duds" just for the circuit boards ... was a simple job to replace the boards, however, you did need the same model board for the dead HD you were trying to revive ... didn't always work.

Now, they are a throw-away item.

I have exactly the same board but I don't want to use it yet. I know it's a simple and inexpensive item to buy even the equivilent would be fine as long as the tolerence was ok

How many legs has it got?

Looks like an IC to me, which means it could be one of many things.

I'm wondering what makes you think it's a diode?
