Complex Reporting Tool Required

I need to find a reporting tool that allows me to do most
everything (aside from form design) via code. I've tried
ComponentOne and Crystal, but neither seems to like
giving me absolute control over creating sub-reports on
the fly, and manually populating field values.

I understand that I should be able to pass either a
dataset or XML structure to the report engine, but I use
nested references (child to the parent) and the report
engines do not like this.

Can anyone recommend a versatile reporting tool that
might do the trick? Do I have to resort to using HTML
(I'd like to be able to get a PDF out of all of this)?
 
Hi George,

Take a look at crystal again. It's become a whipping boy now-a-days - not
without some justification - but I never had to do anything reporting that
crystal - ultimately - couldn't do.

You may want to take a look at www.crystalreportsbook.com, where Brian
Bishof has put together perhaps the definitive work on crystal.
