I tried beta testing the new Spyware and found it slowed
my system to a complete crawl. At first I thought maybe I
had a virus or something as I could not believe it would
be a Microsoft problem. BUT, after thoroughly checking
everything -- that was the only thing it could be. Thus --
I uninstalled it and my computer was once again -- happy!!

I notice you are sending it out as an automatic update-- I
say CAVEAT EMPTOR! I certainly hope you fixed these
problems.

hey I am somewhat new to this also you must have some
other problems because the beta did not cause your
slowdown I have had the micro soft beta for two months now
and I have had none of these problems with slowdowns /
incompatibility ext, do a search for hijackthis download
it run the scan then safe log file send it to Ron Kinner
(e-mail address removed)
he reviewed a minor problem I had with my registry file
and gave me the right advice. for one week my system had a
virus I did not know about system was acting funny Ron
found the problem right away and now I am perfect again,
its not always the software no matter how well the system
ran before you downloaded it.

Microsoft Antispyware has never been distributed by WindowsUpdate or
AutoUpdate.

I can believe that you are accurately describing your experience with
Microsoft Antispyware, but I'd be interested to know whether a second
installation attempt shows the same problem?

If it does, I'd uninstall and wait for an announcement of a further build of
the beta to re-test.

I suggest this because your symptom is quite unusual--a large number of
people are running this software without any issues whatsoever--and some
such interactions are the result of install problems, rather than inherent
to the particular machine and software involved.

nah, another newbie tester
putting the blame on MSAS

many posters simply do not understand that when they post reports or bugs,
many try to reproduce them
and if they can't get the same results, it simply means that it is an isolated
case
and nobody is really interested
UNLESS
the experienced testers including the testlab obtain the same results, then
MS will seriously look into the matter

crying babies indeed

Greetings, SLOW is the word. I also find the slowness
intolerable. I am also a little surprised that they would
suggest installing such a program until it is at least
better at leaving the other programs alone. Like you, I
noticed the slowdown immediately. I spend a lot of time
just trying to make sure my system does NOT slow down.

many are running it without problems
how about a little info on OS, software running in the background, etc?

Rick--there are many millions of machines running this software--if even a
small fraction of those saw your issue, we'd be inundated here, and although
there are lots of posts here, we really aren't swamped.

I'm sure you are seeing something real, and that Microsoft Antispyware is
probably involved in it--but this really isn't the experience most are
having--in fact I've never seen it in perhaps 4 dozen installs.

I'd try doing an update install for your installation--go to control panel,
Microsoft Antispyware, choose Change, then update.

See whether that improves the behavior at all.

If it does not, and if a full removal, and reinstallation also doesn't--I
think in your situation, I'd go for taking the app off and waiting for
another build. This app will change substantially in some later build of
the beta, so it will be worth testing again even if you had major problems
with these earlier builds.
