can anyone help or suggest something for the following problem ?
thanks

when i had windows ME on this same computer system the computer would
turn right off when i shut it down, but after i reformatted and
installed win 2000, the system only goes as far as saying

"it is now safe to turn off your computer"

and sit at that screen.

and suggestions ? thanks

I had the same problem and found that my problem was with the MoBo, that is
of the old computer that would not auto shut down. I velieve you can set it
in the Bios. Look on google for ACPI function for ful shutdown and see if
that helps. BTW, I built the new computer and used my registered version of
W2K, since I loaded W98SE on the older slower one and they are both fast
now.

What if this occurs with 2 systems and not a third - all on the same MB?
I've got a multi boot system - my Win9x shuts down completely, but my Win 2K and XP do not...

I had this recently and what I did was go into control panels. go into the
Power Options control panel. if there is a tab saying AMP then select it.
(Its advanced power management.) then put a tick into the "Enable..." and
your PC will now shutdown.

hope this helps
