Complete PC backup problem

I just purchased an external 250GB hard drive to backup on my new 'Windows
Vista Business' PC ... and have already re-formatted the drive to NTFS.

When I try to perform a Complete PC Backup, I receive an error message ...
'Backup Failed
Not enough disk space to create shadow copy on the storage location
(0x80780035 )
Additional Information:
Insufficient storage available to create either the shadow copy storage file
or other shadow copy data (0x8004231F)'

My complete backup should require about 55GB of space ... so the new
250GB hard drive should have ample space ... and the PCs own hard drive
also has around 250BG of free space if required during the backup process.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mark

Are there any partitions *anywhere* on the computer that are running low on
disk space?

Thanks Jill ...

Not as far as I am aware ... but, how do I check to see if 'any partitions
*anywhere* on the computer that are running low on disk space?'

I would go to Disk Management and check how many partitions you have. They
don't always show up in Explorer. You can do this by right-clicking Computer
(on your Start menu), and then clicking Manage. You'll give permission to
continue, and then click the Disk Management icon on the left side of the
window. From here you can view the properties of each volume in your
computer and see how much free space you have on each.

Thanks for your response Jill.

My Disk Management reports that I have the followingfree space ...

Disc 0:
657MB Healthy ( EISA Configuration ) Free Space 657MB
OS_Install (C:) 297.45GB NTFS Healthy ( System, Boot, Page File, Active,
Crash Dunp, Primary Partition ) Free Space 238.67GB

Disc 1:
New Volume (D:) 232.88GB NTFS Healthy ( Primary Partition ) Free Space
232.75GB

So, I would appear to have ample Free Space ( ... the new D drive is
still empty apart from a few files transfered, just to test that it is
working OK )

Any more suggestions?

Thanks

Mark
