I would open the case and look at the ram that is already plugged into
the motherboard to see how many slots total are there and how many slots
are already filled with memory. Most machines I have seen lately have 4
slots on the motherboard.
If you are 'lucky' you will still have some slots not filled with memory
and will be able to add more.
If not, you will need to remove the 'lower capacity' memory modules
already installed and replace them with 'higher capacity' ones.
There are so many different types of ram modules these days that it
would be VERY helpful if you knew what type was already installed in
your computer.
If you don't know, you might bring the computer box with you to a
reputable local computer store and ask them for assistance -- unless you
feel ok with removing the memory from the motherboard yourself and
bringing it into the store so they can try to identify it.
I would STRONGLY suggest putting the memory into an anti-static bag as
soon as you remove it to reduce the possibility of zapping it.
Use your 'girlie' skills and you will soon have up to a dozen male
computer nerds tripping over themselves to offer assistance
