Compiling the Database

I would like to know if I can compile my database so that
it can run independently of Access. In the long run, I
intend to sell my work, but I feel that it would be more
salable if it ran as its own independent program. Is this
possible? If so, is there a way legally to sell my
database without requiring the end user to purchase a $100-
$200 Access program?

You can't actually compile your Access application into an executable file that
will run independent of Access. An option might be to purchase the "Developer's"
edition of MS Office, if Access 2002 (XP), or earlier. If Access 2003, you would
need to purchase the "Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office
System", which includes the Access 2003 Developer Extensions. The Developer
Extensions, and the Developer Editions of earlier Access versions, contain the
Access royalty-free Runtime that allows you to distribute your application to
clients who don't own Access. For more information, see the following:

I believe that Microsoft no longer sells earlier versions of Office/Access, so
you might have to locate venders/sites that sell used or overstocked software,
such as eBay. Keep in mind that it's easy to be scammed or stuck with a copy of
the software that isn't legal this way.
