DOS game: Grandest Fleet

Old...old DOS game, I have tried to use this game on
previous versions of Windows, with mixed results, but
ALWAYS with BAD sound (internal speaker, no MIDI). I just
bought a new computer and don't want to run the risk of
crashing anything. Any tips would be appreciated!!

You can use a program called VDMSound to emulate a legacy sound card such as
the SoundBlaster, SB16, Roland, etc. It seems to work very well with all the
old DOS games I have tried. I have placed a link the it below. If you can
post the name of the game I may be able to get more info on whether it will
run properly in XP.

Sorry, I just noticed you did post the name of the game as your name. I've
never heard of the Grandest Fleet, but I see it requires a SoundBlaster 16
so if it will start up in XP you can use the previously mentioned utility
for sound and music support.
