Probably a dumb question, but is Movie Maker compatible with avi files? I've
never used it before and want to splice some avi files taken with my flip
camera.

Not a dumb question...formats are a big issue
with Movie Maker and the .avi files may work for
you...I would say try it first and if you have problems
read the following info.

There are hundreds of types of .avi files and
many if not most have issues with Movie Maker.

Best bet may be to convert your.avi files to the
..wmv format before importing into Movie Maker.

Windows Media Encoder should be able to
convert the .avi files to .wmv:

Also...the freeware SUPER may be worth a try:

(the mirror download site is faster)

Papajohn also has a section on his site about using Flip cams, so it might
be worth looking for that and reading.

Dear Jeff,
I do not know about .avi files from a camcorder, but the .avi file that
records with CamStudio do not work. I downloaded a seperate program that
changes .avi into .mp4 from www.downloads.com. You can probably find one
there.
