Compatible DVD decoder

HI, I have XP home with CD recorder and dvd player. I
went to play a rented dvd, it will not play. Says I "do
not have a compatible dvd decoder". How do I get one?
thanks, sounds like maybe I deleted mine by accident.

You should have received one with your machine or with
your DVD drive. I have both XP Professional and XP
Home at home and neither included a DVD player.
 
Windows XP doesn't come with a DVD decoder. You will need
to download the trail versions of PowerDVD or WinDVD,
they come with the decoders required to use the DVD .
