Compatibility mode won't stay off

My company has moved over to Office 2007 almost completely. By
default I would prefer to open a new spreadsheet and save spreadsheets
in Office 2007 format .xlsx. I clicked the ribbon, clicked Options,
clicked Save, and changed it to Excel Workbook (*.xlsx), then clicked
OK. But when I close Excel and reopen it the new spreadsheet is in
Compatibility mode again. When I check that setting under Options it
has reverted to Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls). It can't seem to save
that setting.

Any suggestions?

Couple of questions.
When you select Save as are you clicking it? You should just move the cursor
over it and then right and then up and click Excel workbook.

Alternatively if you click Save as then when the Save dialog box is
displayed where you get the opportunity to rename the file you can set the
next line to the type of required file.

Also ensure that you are selecting the xlsx file (xl2007) because you will
have both the old and new file.

Hi,

First check this - choose Office Button, Excel Options, Save, and see if the
first item "Save files in this format" is set to Excel Workbook (*.xlsx)

If that doesn't work you can try:

You may have a default workbook stored as an xls file, so when you open
Excel or click the New button you are opening the default workbook. One
thing to do is to open a new file and save it as and xlst file (template),
name it Book and save it to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12\XLStart folder.
