If I open a file that was created using earlier versions of powerpoint, edit
and save, others can't edit the presentation anymore. On thier side, the
text boxes and graphs and everthing on the slides turn to image files.

Also, when I open a file created in earlier versions, the contents become
distorted and some texts do not show

How do I fix?

Hi,

It would be handy to know specifically which versions you are having trouble
with. Have you updated Service Packs?

Please tell us your PowerPoint / Windows version,
whether you are using vba, or
anything else relevant

Let me try restating that ... tell me if I have it right:

Someone's created a presentation in PowerPoint 97 - 2003.
You open it in the *2007 Beta Preview*, edit and save.
When someone opens it again in an earlier version of PowerPoint, some of the
text and other graphics have turned into images and can't be edited.

If that sums it up, then that's the expected behavior when you use effects in
2007 that aren't available in earlier versions.

Suppose you use a soft-edged shadow, for example. Not supported in earlier
versions, so the options are:

- Delete the effect altogether; preserve editability at all costs, regardless
of the effect on the appearance of the presentation

- Convert the effect to something that'll preserve its appearance in older
versions, even if that makes it uneditable

You can make reasonable arguments for either approach, but as it happens, MS
chose Door Number Two. ;-)

Try this on the earlier version IN an earlier version of PowerPoint, then open
in 2007:

Other than that, there may not be much you can do ... other than wait for the
release version of the software.
