compatability with windows live messenger

my friend does not have windows live and we we wondering if there was any
compatable software we could use so that we can communicate using our web
cams. he has an apple mac and i have a pc we both have vista.
 
unfortunately Yahoo dose not have support for webcam's at present
i have chatted with Yahoo and this was the response

: However you need to know that even though we have integrated the MSN
interoperability with Yahoo! Messenger certain features like the Webcam and
the File Sharing features are not yet available for two different IM
services, but rest assured that we are looking into the possibility that this
feature will be included in the near future. At the moment only basic IM
feature (Chat) is available for this two IM software.

if only it would work
