compatability mode

Where is the control to change the compatability mode for windows xp to an
earlier version of Windows? I used to run across the control all the time
when I wasn't looking for it.
 
Click on the properties of any executable program that is EXE then select
'compatibility' tag. BAT files are also in this category and probably few
others. COM files seem to be only changeable trough the use of a shortcut
where the shortcut can then be placed in a compatibility mode.

the program you are trying to run right click that and
Click to expand...
click propertied and click compatablity
