I'm trying to figure out AMD processors and I'm not really sure what the Intel equivalient of an AMD Sempron 3000+ Processor is...

Is there a general rule when comparing AMD and Intel processors?

i.e. AMD 3000+ is the same as a 2.6GHz Intel Pentium CPU?? Or is it?

Would you Like it in Ford Black or Vauxhall Blue?

The difference is ... 0

Price ... :D

It's my favorite game ... The Numbers Game ... rule one, ignore it, rule two, what is your choice of MB, 'cos that little baby will have to deal with everything ... rule three, Games?? then after you choose what the MB is ... just bung the top CPU it will take. :thumb:

... there will be other opinions I'm sure, me, I like AMD no matter who is top gun. ;)

It is a tricky one but in short I'd say for the last 8 or 9 years AMD have wiped the floor with Intel.

Then Intel brought out this Conroe chip and the 6600 model is really rather good

I still favour AMD but AM2 offers precious little over Socket 939 but costs a helluva lot more.

Right now, if I were upgrading, I'd either spend quite a lot on Conroe 6600/Asus or DFI Motherboard/DDR2 RAM/at least a 7600 series pci-e video card or I'd spend a lot less on top of the range socket 939 system and be able to use old DDR RAM.

What I'm wondering, is would I be able to tell the difference?

From most reviews I've read, it appears I would be able to tell the difference as it seems that after all those years in the wilderness and sometimes getting things horribly wrong, Intel seem to have made something really rather good

Couple this with the news that the new Apple Macs with Intel CPU's look to be doing the business and perform well and I'm really rather flabbergasted.

Things change, don't they?

AMD for me . Read somewhere that they run a lot cooler than Intels which has to be a good thing . :)

Oh, it changes from generation to generation of CPU.

Time was, Intel ran cool, AMD burned up.

Then it was vice versa.

As I see it now, Conroes and AM2's are on level pegging for coolness, far as I can see, with maybe the AMD dual core AM2's running the hottest.
