Compare records in Access and Excel

I am updating the Access database with records in an Excel
spreadsheet. I would like to make sure that all the
records have been updated by comparing the total records i
Excel to the updated records only in Access.

Does anyone have any ideas?

how are you updating? is the xl file linked?
somehow i would write a query the pulls the updated
records. then query the xl records. display both totals in
a 3rd query for side by side comparison.
 
No I am not linking the excel file. I am using a macro in
Access to update the access table.

I would like to get a total of all the excel lines,
compare to # of records updated. I think I have a
solution at the access end but am not sure how to get
total lines in excel.
