A few minutes ago, I began a posting, then hit something by mistake that
made the first (unfinished) posting vanish. Maybe it transmitted and
appears ahead of this posting; maybe not. We'll see.
Anyway, I am going to try again from the top.
The problem: I have two documents that are almost the same, but
which contain some portions that are different. I want to compare the
files, note the differnences and go through the resultant document and
pick out the best parts and produce a new, combined manuscript.
I think I know how to start: Click on tools -- track chagnes --
enter name of compare document and so on.
This process produces a single documnt with places in which there
are differences between the two files marked in color, with the copy
either (1) crossed out wsith line through, or (2) underlined.
The prblem: How do I get rid of tyhe color and the lining
(underlining and strikeout)? There must be a way, but I have yet to
find it.
Help! And thank you in advance.P.S. This is my first posting. I
hope I have followed the proper etiquette and so on.

Hi Stu

The colour marking are the differences between your documents - the
strikethrough is where one of the documents has deleted (or not got) text
that is in the other, and the underlined is where that document has added
stuff. These are known as tracked changes or revisions.

The colour marking will disappear when you carry on your intentions to
'pickout the best parts'. In this case, that means reviewing the changes and
'accepting' or 'rejecting' the change. If stuff is shown underlined and you
want it - accept the change. If it is shown in strikethrough and you want
it, reject the deletion. Reverse procedure if you want to permanently remove
the marked text.
