Howdy: Hope this is the right venue to ask this question in. If not,
please let me know which/where to do so.

I have a Compaq laptop that some one donated and I'm trying to get it
into some sembalance of working condition. I'm having trouble with the
memory. It has 8MB of RAM built right into the 'puter and I have two
32MB cards to boost it up to 72MB, but the unit is not recognizing the
64MB of new RAM. I have sent it in to Trend for them to evaluate and
fix and/or replace. But my question is that in the manual I downloaded
from Compaq there is a mention of a "Memory Expansion Board Carrier"
that the moduals are supposed to clip into and then be inserted into
the laptop. I have no such piece of equipment. The memory moduals were
just slipped into the two slots like normal memory in a regular PC. Do
I need this carrier for the RAM to work properly or can it run with
out it??

There's not a whole lot of info on the Compaq site about this model. I
know it's pretty old, but I think if I can get the RAM fixed it would
make a nice little email/light web surfing machine.

Would be very gratefull for any help or assisstance

Have a look at this page SB
http://www.memoryx.net/pc6-2026.html
Looks like they may be in a carrier ( bttm of page on the left).

Yup, that sure looks like it, except I don't have that plastic
carrier. On the other hand it looks like that puppy is not really
needed to install the RAM. I can just push them into the slots. The
carrier seems to screw down to keep the cards in, so if I'm careful
they should work without that thingie.
Thanks for the page someone!
