Hi

Another question... I would like to alter the "Tiny Computers" screen that
appears at power up on one of my machines. Infact I would like to make a
new image for all the families PCs!!
Can anyone point me in the right direction please as to how I can do this?

Many thanks

Matt

I'm not 100% sure about Tiny but a lot of manufacturers have that startup
screen coded into the bios. It can be changed but it's not a trivial
exercise.

Check a forum for the motherboard. There may be an updated/hacked BIOS
that will allow it however this is an,"Expert" operation IMHO and not
for the inexperienced.

It involves modifying ntoskrnl.exe. There are some programs out there that
can hack this file. I'm not recommending using the following program, but
the link might give you an idea of what needs to be done:

I found a few sites out there that also have interesting boot screens that
you can download. Google: windows xp boot screen

Hope this helps.

If the motherboard supports custom logos, it's not rocket science. With
utilities it would be on the order of flashing the bios. e.g. Intel publishes
some utilities that allow "OEM" logos. The utility writes to a custom NVRAM
region designed to hold a specific image format and size (exact obviously).
It's menu driven and even validates the logo before burning it iirc.

First step is to find out if your motherboard manufacturer publishes such
utilities. If they do, great. Follow the instructions.

If they don't, forget it. You're either looking at a memory type that can't
be flashed (i.e. Dell, Compaq, etc) or messing around with home brewed bios
hacks that could leave your motherboard crippled.

Many thanks all!!
