I have tried several time to compact/repair an Access XP
db but to no end during the compacting phase (about 50%
complete) Access crashses and reports an fatal error in
ntdll.dll

Background: the db is linked to an Access 97 db for tables
only. I have to have a 97 and XP frontend. Both db's are
on network drives and when I try to compact the 97
backend, it also crashes. But if I copy the 97 backend to
my local hdd, then it compacts just fine. Also, if I try
breaking the links to the 97 backend - Access XP crashes
(ntdll.dll again).

Short of completely rebuilding the db's - I'm stuck -
Please help!

Thanks,
Mark

Just thought I would post the solution to my own problem -
and I should have searched the KB with more detail before
I posted.

It seems that this is a known issue when the file path is
greater that 128 characters (we have some former
consultants that like to use these long, deep drilling
folerders).
