Having copied a piece of my own poetry to a compact disc
some time ago I have no idea how to play the disc.I am a
silver surfer and struggle with the complexities of my
computer and would welcome any help as to playing back
CD's.

Can you clarify what "copied a piece of my own poetry to a
compact disc" means. please? Did you record yourself speaking the
verse? Did you write a text file? Something else?

What software did you use to do this?

Place the CD in the tray on the computer; a dialog box should come up with
options, including "Open it" with a folder icon to the left. But if none
appears, go to Start>Run..., and in the dialog box type in <driveletter>:/
(mine are E and F so if I want E, I type in E:/ ) then click on OK. A widow
comes up which displays the file or files. Double-click what's wanted to
open. If unsure about all of this "Run... " stuff, double-click My Computer
on the Desktop and double-click the drive CD is in for same result.
