Check the Dell support website for an update for the installed BIOS on that
computer.

Are you using a wireless keyboard or mouse? Some users have reported these
to be problematic with the sleep function in Vista. Installing a Vista
compatible driver can fix this problem.

Are you getting any error messages when trying to resume from sleep? See the
following MSKB article.

A Windows Vista-based computer that uses a PCI-E graphics device may stop
responding when you wake the computer from sleep:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937500

A Windows Vista-based computer does not wake from sleep when a PassThru
driver is installed:

Let me know what you find.

Open Contral Panel/Ease of Access Center and select "Use the computer
without a display" remove the check mark from "Turn On Narrator."

Next, click on "Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard." Remove the
check mark from "Use the On Screen Keyboard."

If the OSK still appears when you log on, go to Start / All Programs Start
Up folder. If there is a shortcut there for the on screen keyboard. delete
the shortcut.

For the sleep problem, I'm out of ideas? You might want to contact Dell
Support and ask about any known issues with your system.

It is not Dell's problem. I don't have Dell but I have same "sleep" problem
.. That's genuine Vista problem .

The history of this problem doesn't support your comment. Most of the Dell
systems that have experienced this problem have been fixed with a Dell BIOS
update. Problems with Sleep and Hibernate are almost always traced back to
hardware driver issues.

I'll check the Acer site, but I'm running a brand new Acer Aspire 5100 and
I've encountered the same problems. I believe I saw another MVP post saying
that they've released a hotfix that's still being tested, and to wait until
they release it in a future patch if possible. I've been using the Hibernate
option instead of Sleep (for some reason, the computer wakes from Deep Sleep
options, but not short term).

I've had Vista up and running for about six months. After installing the
latest set of updates my computer won't come out of sleep mode (I do recall
seeing that my video card drivers were also auto-updated).

To start up I have to power down and restart (which takes forever). How do
I get this to come out of sleep mode properly? Do you think it is a Vista,
video card, or Bios problem??

Should I discontinue the Live Update function once I stabilize my system??
