I'm running Win xp Home. Recently some programs will not
open and I get an error message which says
basically "cannot find commonsystemfile.msi, please
insert the common system files disk and click ok. How do
I resolve this problem short of reinstalling win xp?

Hi,
This may help restore some of the original files:
1. Go to Start/Run type "cmd" in the Run window
A DOS window should appear

2. Type "c:\" and press Enter
This will back you up to the C:\
Insert your Windows XP Disk in the CD Drive
3. Type "scf/scannow"
This will scan your Windows computer files and compare
them to the CD, if any are incorrect or missing it will
replace them from the CD, hope this helps.
