I'm sick and tired of n+1 update agents starting and going to systray at
Windows startup! Even so, not all programs are up-to-date.

Windows needs an update utility that works like yum (apt) in Linux.
Microsoft would supply the utility, and all new installed programs write
their update repository address to the utility configuration file. That
way everything is kept up to date as long as product support is
available. Only thing I don't understand is why isn't it in already?

Now come on and do it!

recognition?

It needs to be supplied by Microsoft and the update information
integrated into Windows Installer. As a third-party utility it's just
not going to be widespread enough. If every Windows installation does
not have it, all software would install their autoupdate agents by
default anyway.

So? Same question still stands..
You really think if you could build it and market it, Microsoft wouldn't
include it/integrate it?

(BTW - it doesn't work for everything in the *nix world either - contrary to
popular belief. Not all software gets updated in the same way nor will it
ever unless one company makes all software.)
