Hello,
I'm curious if anyone can speak to what are the most common drive
letters for the main local disks of common PC's. Of course, C:\ has
been the most common in the past but some new machines are appearing
with I:\ and others.

Drive letters start with A and go to Z.
With the latest operating systems you can change them from device to
device except the primary drive will have to be "C".
Unless you specifically assign them, the OS will just assign the next
available letter to the latest installed device.

If you purchased the PC from an OEM (Dell, HP, Etc.) then your hard disk
drive will most likely have one partition (C:) for Windows and applications.
Sometimes OEM's also create a hidden partition, but that's another subject.
Next your CD/DVD drive will be assigned the drive letter D. If you have dual
DVD drives then the second DVD drive will be assigned the letter E. USB or
other removable devices can also be assigned drive letters dynamically when
they are connected.

Hope this helps

Thanks JS,
I'm helping someone with a new HP that has I. Reading peoples posts
suggest I not try to change that.
